North Carolina’s high school students are now achieving higher scores than the national average on the revamped SAT exam, even though the majority of the state’s seniors are now taking the ACT.
North Carolina’s graduating class of 2017 posted an average score of 1,081 on the new SAT exam – 21 points above the national average of 1,060. The College Board overhauled the exam with changes that lowered the maximum score to 1,600, eliminated obscure vocabulary words, dropped the penalty for guessing and made the essay optional.

For the first time since the 1970’s, College Board will be offering a summer administration of the SAT. The inaugural summer exam is scheduled for August 26, 2017 and will recur annually. The January SAT date, often cited as an unpopular option, will be phased out after its final appearance in 2017.
At Biltmore Tutoring, we do lots of private tutoring and test prep. However, we have also had great success with our small group SAT and ACT test prep classes (in fact, some of our largest score increases came from class students, and especially ones who combined a class with a few private lessons to tune up with material that they needed a little one-on-one help with).
Biltmore Tutoring’s SAT and ACT test prep classes, which have just been announced for the spring and summer of 2017, are affordable, effective, and allow students to prepare for the exam over a span of five Sundays, or in a one-week block during the summer. These classes will prepare students for the tests which will take place from May through September. All books, practice materials, access to all of our incredibly effective test prep strategies, master’s degree instruction, the use of our student response system, and two free practice tests are included!
Class dates for the classes and summer ‘boot camp’ style classes are listed below.
